Ok, so we may be entering the tale end of February but we couldn’t let the month pass without a little preview of four of the most talented artists making huge strides in the music scene and destined for a mighty 2012…

Alt J

Far-fetched and totally unique, are reasons to watch out for Alt J this year. Think Radiohead, hints of Bon Iver mixed with a bit of James Blake. They are impossible to put in a nice neat genre box but that’s why we like them. There is sincere crafts’manship behind their music. Recently signed with Infectious Records, a second single set to release on February 27, confirmed support for Wild Beasts on their tour this coming March, and let alone exploding all over Radio 1 and music blogs, this band has huge things to come.

Ifan Dafydd

This welsh beauty has a lot to offer for the world of tech/deep house. Despite being subject to criticism (sounding too much like former housemate James Blake) there is no denying Ifan Dafydd is a sturdy contender as one to watch. His single ‘No Good’ proves his probing of new ideas and sounds, despite emerging under the substantial shadow of Blake. The likes of Gilles Peterson, Jamie XX and Huw Stephens have all played a part in bringing Dafydd to the surface. I’m excited to see what he has to offer us this 2012.

Todd Terje

Todd Terje has rightfully earned the label of Scandinavian Disco Genius. A slow but steady contribution to the realm of disco and house music, he’s definitely got to be up there with the greats. A risk taker and known to clear the dance floor with absurd and outlandish re edits. Terje seems to amalgamate genres and notoriously adds cheeky surprises that see him a step ahead of his many contemporaries. Check out his track ‘Inspector Norse’ and prepare to grin!

Emily and the Woods

This band consists of London born singer songwriter Emily Wood, her brother Ben on electric guitar and dad Patrick on bass. Emily and the Woods had a storming year last year. She’s supported Ben Howard, Matthew and the Atlas, Newton Faulkner and Ed Sheeran, as well as recording her first EP with friend Laura Marling and members of Mumford and Sons. No wonder she’s building up such acclaim! She releases her second EP ‘Eye to Eye’ on May 4 and we can’t wait.
